My eyes are watering all night My nose is sniffling just thinking How you make me feel like your victim I can’t have enough tissues on hand Going through boxes and boxes Trying to rid you from my system Well, I should’ve know when That lump came in my throat That you’d be staying for a while And that it would be harder and harder To get you out of my system More boxes and boxes Used tissues overflowing My pillow paying the price for Having you over Getting you into my system Well, I should’ve know when That lump came in my throat And that you’d be staying for a while And that it would be harder and harder To get you out of my system They say that what I’ve got is contagious People should stay away I’m just trying to get over Having you here to stay Pho and tears Add in some sriracha I can’t help sniffling Hand me the vodka Trying to expel the demons Expel the feeling Of needing to get you out Well, I should’ve know when That lump came in my throat And that you’d be staying for a while And that it would be harder and harder To get you out of my system My last box of tissues Nearing the ending You bring me to tears My throat is swelling My nose is blowing ‘Cause I’m trying to get you out And I’m trying to get you out Trying to get you out of… And I’m trying to get you out of my… And I’m trying to get you out of my sy... And I’m trying to get you out of my system And I’m trying to get you out of my sys And I’m trying and trying Trying and trying Trying to get you Trying to get you out out

about

FIRST TIME, LONG TIME (EP) is the first solo recording release of Lisa Said, Egyptian-American songstress. For these songs, she delves into her roots to represent the music she heard growing up in the hills of Tennessee—oldies, pop, folk, soul, and Arabic music.

Now living on the outskirts of Washington, DC, Lisa recorded these songs with legendary punk producer/engineer Don Zientara at Inner Ear Studio throughout most of 2015. Lisa came into the studio with the intention of finding the sweet spot between early 70s folk-rock and North African percussion. This project was jump-started with the contributions of Andrew Toy, a Washington, DC drummer who can play Middle Eastern percussion, the kind of drummer Lisa had been searching for...for years.

These songs were written as far back as 10 years ago, during breaks and in-between days of playing with other bands—garage, rock, powerpop, & art-rock—and represent her more folk & country side. It wasn’t until her last band dissolved that she decided to finally bring these songs out of the darkness.

Fueled by pistachios and bourbon, these songs took the long route—some easy roads, some sharp turns and meanderings. Great talent led to more great talent. The music felt its way through the dark, arriving at the most textured and serendipitous convergence of talent and sound.

There are more songs to come along in 2016 for a full album. FIRST TIME, LONG TIME is the first baby that's arrived after the first nine months.

about

Lisa Said Lisbon, Portugal

Lisa Said (pron. Sa’yeed) is a musician and songwriter who grew up Egyptian in Tennessee... yearning to get out. She learned how to play guitar and bass hanging out with punks, hippies, and rock & rollers after college living up and down the East Coast. Eventually while living in Washington D.C., she recorded most of her solo music which is riddled with nostalgia and mashups of her musical past. ... more
